Renting special effects equipment used to mean a deposit, a damage waiver and a quick lesson in someone else's machine before you were left to figure it out. We do it differently. You can rent any of our gear by the day, pick it up across Metro Vancouver, and add a trained technician whenever you would rather not touch a manual at all. This guide walks through what is available, who each option suits, and the questions worth asking before you book.
Who rents effects equipment?
Three very different groups, which is exactly why renting by the day makes sense rather than one fixed package:
- Private hosts — one machine for one evening. A backyard wedding, a birthday, a house party. You want the look without hiring a full production.
- Shows, concerts & holiday events — a full assortment in volume: fog, haze, confetti and bubbles for a stage, a festival, a Christmas market or a season-long run.
- Film, TV & photo productions — atmosphere gear by the day that holds light beams take after take, without surprises on set.
What you can rent
Fog & haze machines
The workhorses. Fog gives you a visible cloud for entrances and dance floors; haze is finer and hangs in the air to make every beam of light show. Haze is what makes concert and music-video lighting look the way it does.
Low fog machines
Floor-hugging cloud that stays low — the "dancing on clouds" first-dance look, or a stage effect that does not set off smoke alarms. No dry ice to handle and no residue to clean.
Bubble machines
High-output units for kids' parties, school events, summer festivals and outdoor markets. They run for hours, indoors or out.
Confetti & streamer cannons
Handheld and stage-mount, colour-matched, with biodegradable loads. For concerts, grand openings, New Year countdowns and award nights.
Niche effects
Smoke-filled bubbles, gender-reveal kits and other effects the big rental houses rarely stock. These are often the moments people remember most.
With a technician, or on your own?
Most fog, haze and bubble machines are simple, and we walk you through everything at delivery — so for a straightforward setup you do not need anyone on site. For cued moments — a confetti hit timed to a song, anything fired near a crowd, or a busy multi-machine show — adding a technician is the difference between "it worked" and "it landed". The technician sets up, fires on cue and packs the gear out, and because the equipment stays in our care, there is nothing for you to sign for.
How rates work
Pricing is per unit, per day. Multi-day and weekly bookings cost less per day, and volume or seasonal orders get wholesale rates. Rather than a one-size-fits-all price list, we quote each booking personally and reply the same day — a one-night school concert and a three-week holiday market simply need different numbers.
Booking tips
- Book Halloween and December early. Fog machines around Halloween and everything in December sell out weeks ahead.
- Check your venue's rules. Some halls are sensitive to fog near alarms — low fog and haze are usually the safe choices, and we can advise.
- Tell us the moment, not just the machine. "First dance" or "trophy reveal" helps us recommend the right unit and consumables.
